Since 2019, we have walked hand in hand with vulnerable mothers, fathers, children, and entire households across Uganda, offering practical support and spiritual encouragement. From food and clothing to education, counselling, discipleship, and shelter, we serve as a bridge of care to those who need it most.
Through household assessments, tailored interventions, and strong partnerships with individuals, charities, and government institutions, Zion Shelter brings holistic healing and restoration to communities starting from the heart.

Zion Shelter was birthed from a deeply personal journey of faith, compassion, and lived experience. In 2015, Minister Sarah Areso received a prophetic word from a servant of God declaring she carried the Ministry of Dorcas- a biblical woman known for her generous acts of kindness toward widows, children, and the poor (Acts 9: 36-42). Long before this confirmation, Sarah already felt a profound calling to support vulnerable people in her community.
In 2017, Sarah became a single mother of three daughters. Navigating the hardships of raising a family alone, even while employed, deepened her empathy for struggling parents – especially those without jobs, support systems, or stable income. She often asked herself: If I’m finding it hard, how much more difficult is it for those who have absolutely nothing?
With that burden in her heart, in 2019, Sarah began a grassroots effort to support vulnerable families in Dokolo and Lira’s village communities, as well as the slums of Kampala. What started as a personal initiative soon grew into a community-supported movement. Friends and well-wishers joined her vision, donating clothes, shoes, school supplies, food items, medical supplies, and volunteering their time.
Zion Shelter now carries out household assessments to determine each family’s specific needs and provides tailored support. These services include food distribution, clothing, scholastic materials, hygiene and sanitation education, temporary shelter, farm inputs, first aid and minor medical support, discipleship and counseling, and referrals to available government and charity services.
In May 2025, Zion Shelter officially became a registered global organization with a vision to restore hope, dignity, and stability to vulnerable families.
Minister. Sarah Areso, the Founder and Executive Director of Zion Shelter, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from Makerere University & PGD in Monitoring and Evaluation from Uganda Management Institute Kampala. A devoted Christian and passionate social worker, she leads this mission-driven organization with unwavering faith, compassion, and dedication.
